Phoenix Bobcats Track and Field Coach Erwin Jones, Training World Championship – Caliber Athletes in Arizona for 28 Years
About Coach Erwin Jones
Erwin started running track when was 9 years old and continued competing until he was 49, including running on the track team at Pittsburg State University. He started coaching when he was only 19 along side his own high school coach, who told him he had “a knack for coaching.” He continued his coaching career when he moved to Arizona in 1981.
Coach Jones started the non-profit Bobcats Track and Field club in 1986, after recognizing that Arizona didn’t have any after school programs for Track and Field. He has also been training Arizona athletes for 28 years, for athletic and conditioning training. Coach Jones has mentored and trained many state, regional and national honorees as well as world championship – caliber athletes. He has an impressive reputation and a large community following. In fact, he is now coaching the children of athletes he had coached himself years ago. Coach Jones also offers personal training, to athletes that want to improve their skills.
Bobcats
The Bobcats do more than run, they are encouraged to participate in multiple sports.
Young athletes need to experience multiple sports, to recognize what they excel at and enjoy the most. Most sports involve running, any athlete that participates in track and field will improve their skills at other sports as well. Learning how to run properly is a crucial skill in most sports. Athletes should look for a club that fits their needs. The Bobcats coaching team focuses on more than one aspect of running, and they emphasize technique. I think the Bobcats record and athletes accomplishments speak for themselves. The Bobcats currently have 7 athletes that will be competing in the USATF National Junior Olympics.
Any Athlete over the age of 6 can join the Phoenix Bobcats Track and Field Club.
The Bobcats practice at Shadow Mountain High School and Shea Middle School.
