It seems that the “inner thigh gap” has become an obsession for many women. The internet is absolutely littered with “ITG” or “inner thigh gap” propaganda. Obtaining this goal can be dangerous, if you are dropping to an unhealthy weight. There are however, options to help you achieve the coveted thigh gap, with out starving yourself.
About Fat Cells
Our bodies, generally do not create new fat cells after puberty. While the actual number of fat cells remain the same, they do change in size. Each fat cell will become larger with weight gain (stored fat), and when we lose weight (reduced body fat) each fat cells shrink. Where the fat cells are concentrated within the body, will vary, individually. Although, diet and exercise can reduce the size of fat cells, it will not reduce the number of fat cells or change the concentration of fat cells in a specific area. Luckily, there are procedures that can reduce the number of, or shrink fat cells in a targeted area.
Cosmetic procedures are ideal when you want to reduce the concentration of fat in a specific area, however they are not intended to be used for weight loss. Cosmetic procedures target subcutaneous fat, which is found underneath your skin, but over the muscle. Cosmetic procedures do not target visceral fat, which is below the muscle and surrounds internal organs. Exessive visceral fat is associated with many serious health problems, and needs to be controlled with a healthy diet and exercise.
Liposcuction is a surgical procedure, where fat cells are physicaly and permently removed from the treated area. Liposuction has long been used to remove fat, but we now have non surgical options, such as CoolSculpting and Velashape to treat targeted areas of fat.
VelaShape™ is a non-surgical option that uses a combination of Bi-Polar Radiofrequency (RF), Infrared Light Energy, plus Vacuum and Mechanical Massage to increases the metabolism of stored energy, increases lymphatic drainage and reduces or shrinks the size of the actual fat cells and fat chambers. In short it shrinks fat cells, tighten skin and reduce cellulite. Velashape allows you to target the fat cells in the treated are. Most people should expect to do a series of 5 treatments, each treatment scheduled about 2 weeks apart. This treatment is very comfortable and with out any down-time. A typical treatment takes about an hour per area.
CoolSculpting™ uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate unwanted fat cells without surgery or downtime. CoolSculpting procedure is similar to liposuction, because it actually reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas permenatly. Results can be seen as early as 6 weeks and continue to improve up to 4 months after each treatment. Most people should expect to do about two treatments per area.
Motivation & Self Image
Most of the people I see in the clinic are a healthy weight, but would prefer to reduce the fat between their thighs, without dropping a lot of weight. These women are good candidates for aesthetic contouring procedures. My concern is with anyone who may have an unhealthy body image and an inner thigh gap is a measure of how thin they have become. If you are hopeing for an inner thigh gap, you need to ask yourself if you have a healthy goal or if you are struggling with body image and a possible eating disorder. In general a BMI below 18.5 is underweight, but if you are not sure consult with a doctor. History has shown us, that like beauty trends, body type prefreances will come and go, but healthy is always pretty.

About 8 of of 10 women have cellulite, even women that are thin or work out often have cellulite. Some of hottest celebrities have cellulite, Pamela Anderson, Misha Baton, Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Beyonce have all been photographed with cellulite. Kim Kardashian has even had Velashape cellulite treatments on her show. VelaShape offers an effective solution for treating cellulite, which is probably why we have seen it on shows like Dr Phil, Rachel Ray and The Doctors.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is the unsightly lumpy, dimpled skin appearance, also known as the ‘cottage cheese’ or ‘orange peel’ appearance. Cellulite consists of fat deposits that appear mainly on the hips, thighs and buttocks. The skin’s connective tissue surrounds fat cells, which are arranged in chambers. The margins of these chambers contain septae. Over time, the fat cells increase in size and number. This phenomenon together with accumulation of localized edema, push the skin’s surface between the septae in an upward direction. This is what creates the lumpy and dimpled skin appearance, also known as the ‘cottage cheese’ appearance, associated with cellulite.
VelaShape™ Cellulite Treatment
VelaShape™ features the unique elōs™ technology combination of Bi-polar Radiofrequency (RF), Infrared Light Energy, plus Vacuum and Mechanical Massage to deploy targeted heat to adipose tissue. The precise heating ensures a safe, effective, fast treatment with no downtime. Vacuum and specially designed rollers for the Mechanical Massage smooth out the skin to facilitate safe and efficient heat energy delivery. The combination of these energies increases the metabolism of stored energy, increases lymphatic drainage and reduces or shrinks the size of the actual fat cells and fat chambers. The net result is gradual smoothening of skin’s surface with a noticeable reduction in cellulite. With VelaShape™ it is easy to enhance your body, improve your lifestyle and feel better about yourself!
Gradual smoothing of skin’s surface with a noticeable reduction in cellulite

Radio frequency is not the same as laser, however it is often used in conjunction with laser treatments in a clinical setting. Radio frequency (RF) usually refers to oscillations in electrical circuits. Aesthetic treatments use non-ablative (RF) energy in short intense pulses that oscillate through the skin to heat targeted tissue. Radio frequency (RF) is often used to tighten the skin. The (RF) energy penetrates the skin and stimulates the contraction of collagen and the production of new collagen for skin tightening.

Radio frequency devices use a variety of delivery systems and penatrate to varying depths. Radio frequency can be monopolar or bipolar. Bipolar devices are often combined with other types of technology such as infrared light.
Monopolar vs Bipolar
For the purpose of aesthetic treatments Monopolar radiofrequency is delivered by applying a single electrode to the treated area and an opposing electrode that is relatively far removed so that the current goes deeply through the body. Unipolar (RF) penetrates deeper and more intensely than bipolar( RF). Thermage uses monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to tighten and contour skin.
For the purpose of aesthetic treatments bipolar radiofrequency is delivered by applying two closely positioned electrodes to the treated area. The electric current travels from one electrode through the tissue and back up to the other electrode, the current that goes between the electrodes is small and shallow. As a result, the tissue in the treated area is heated less deeply and less intensely than monopolar (RF). In aesthetic treatments bipolar RF is usually combined with light or energy based sources, including lasers, intense pulsed light, infrared light, or vacuum assisted. Infrared light heats the tissue down to the deep dermis and acts to “pre-heat” tissue, for improved (RF) penatration.
Bipolar Radiofrequency used with Laser and IPL
Unlike laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) energy, radio frequency is not absorbed by a specific chromophore. When RF is combined with other energy sources such as lasers and IPL, the laser or IPL energy will be absorbed by the targeted chromophore (melanin or hemoglobin), resulting in an increased temperature in the target areas. The increases in tempeture lowers the tissue impedance to those areas and the RF energy will stream preferentially to the warmer areas with lowered impedance. Elōs is the first and only technology that simultaneously harnesses the power of bi-polar radio frequency (RF) and optical energy.
Bipolar Radiofrequency(RF) used with Suction
Bipolar radiofrequency can also be combined with negative pressure ( suction), to help improve and control the absorption of the RF energy. The tissue is suctioned into the hand-piece and the RF energy passes through. The Aluma uses a vacuum-assisted and bipolar radio-frequency (RF) handpiece for skin tightening methods.
VelaShape uses a combination of Infrared light, bi-polar radio frequency (RF) and negative pressure (suction) to heat deep adipose (fat) tissue. Infrared light, tissue mobilization, and suction, all work synergistically with RF to reduce cellulite.
Don’t Be Scared!
Sexy Halloween costume’s are popular, but they don’t leave much to the imagination.
Our tricks and treats will make you “bootiful” before your Halloween Party.
Trick: Cellulite or belly bump.
Velashape is used to treat cellulite and for circumference reduction. There isn’t any down time so you can go out immediately post treatment. For best results a series of weekly treatments are needed, however even one treatment can offer improvement.
Trick: Scary Hairy
Waxing or Dermaplaneing
Laser hair removal is usually my first suggestion, however for a quick fix waxing or dermaplaning is your best bet. Waxing is quick and can be done almost anywhere on face or body, however waxing is not recommended if you are using isotretinoin or tretinoin.
For facial hair dermaplaning is my favorite option. Dermaplaning involves using a surgical blade to gently scrape the skin, to manually exfoliate dead skin and remove facial hair. Your skin is instantly smooth and your makeup will go on better than you ever imagined. You can go out immediately post treatment and look gorgeous.
Trick: Skin Laxity
ReFirme is a non-invasive Skin Tightening procedure, that is used to achieve a more youthful, toned and lifted appearance without enduring downtime. ReFirme is used to improve skin laxity, targeting those telltale signs of aging, including, jowl and neck laxity, sagginess under the eyes, saggy brow lines, and nasolabial folds. There isn’t any down time with ReFirme treatments, so you can have a treatment the same day as an event. A series of treatments are needed for best results, however even your first treatment offers a visual benefit.
An acne facial can offer some improvement, however keep in mind it is never a good idea to do a lot of extractions before an event. Extractions can be done on pustules and can help reduce inflammation.
Trick : Peeling, flaking skin and beyond.
Microdermabrasion and/ or Dermaplaning
Microdermabrasion is a form of manual exfoliation and is ideal for most skin types. Your treatment is customized to your specific needs. Exfoliation will slough of any flakey or peeling skin, and reduces the appearance of skin discolorations ” slightly”. Pigmentation will still be visible, but we are talking about a last minuet treatment, and you don’t get 100% correction over night. After a Microdermabrasion your skin is left smooth, hydrated and glowing.
Treat: Dead Sea Body Paraffin
This is an incredibly pampering, 90 minute- body wrap treatment. First dead sea salts infused in warm aromatic oil is rubbed over your body, exfoliating and removing dead skin. You are then wrapped in warm wet towels and the salt scrub is gently removed. After the salt glow, oils are massaged into the skin, and then a warm dead sea mud paraffin is painted over your entire body. The body is then wrapped in a cocoon to help seal in moisture. Finally, the the wrap and paraffin is peeled away, leaving your skin silky smooth. This is a salt glow, massage, and body wrap all in one.
Treat: Oxygen Treatment Facial
A uniquely designed system to cleanse, nourish and revitalize every skin cell through its revolutionary use of pure oxygen. It helps to reduce the effects of aging caused by the sun, exposure to pollutants and free radical damage. Vitamin rich oils are first massaged directly into the skin and then infused via pure oxygen into the skin again. This is excellent for dry, dehydrated skin as well as skin that is “hungover” from to much late night partying.
Treat: Lash and Brow Tint
This treatment is excellent for men! Women enjoy it too. Whether the hair is naturally fair or has lightened with age, a quick tint can brighten your appearance. There are many colors that can be used for a natural look.
